“If you photograph people, you are challenged in two ways: as an artist an as a person. This is a double defiance. When I photograph a still life, for example, four glasses and a bottle, then everything that I arrange today will still look the same way tomorrow. With a human being, every encounter is something new and completely different. There is nothing predictable. These are wonderful and sometimes extreme experiences. A person reacts and gives en echo. A still life or a landscape never gives an echo.”(Herlinde Koelbl)
